Early Life

SiMitrē was born Alonzo Devon Edwards on March 8, 1987, in Flint, Michigan and grew up in Grand Blanc, Michigan. SiMitrē was first introduced to music through his parents, who would often play Michael Jackson and soul music at home and on road trips, including albums by Maze feat. Frankie Beverly and Earth Wind and Fire. He sang in church choirs as a very young child and then again much later in high school/early college. He actually really disliked his voice thinking it sounded "weird" and "different", but the constant positive reactions he got from his voice are what encouraged him to begin recording his own music. After graduating from Grand Blanc High School in Michigan in 2005, SiMitrē enrolled in the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, Michigan to study Illustration graduating with a BFA in Illustration in 2009. In order to fund his music ventures, he sold his original oil paintings and started working in the film industry in Detroit, Michigan in 2009 as a set sculptor on feature films.

Career

SiMitrē dabbled in choirs at church and tinkered with keyboards on occasion which led to taking music more seriously soon after college in 2010. He got a vocal coach in Detroit Michigan and started to produce his own music in Logic.

After visiting his cousin (Booker W. Edwards Jr., who was an audio engineer and professor at the Art Institute of Atlanta at the time [now at Georgia State University]) in 2010, SiMitrē moved to Atlanta, GA in 2012 to work with Booker who also connected him with the hit-making record producer Troy Taylor. Troy took SiMitrē under his wing for about a year showing him recording techniques, production techniques and the ins-and-outs of the music industry.

SiMitrē moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to pursue his music career working with amazing artists like Kayo Genesis, Evrywhr, Ky Almighty, K.Chozen, DeVan "D1" Hooker, and more.

June 26, 2020 SiMitrē released his first single called "Xion".

Music Style

SiMitrē's music has been described as epic and cinematic, with raspy/smooth vocals. The lyrics are simple yet introspective, taking the listener through an exhilarating journey, exploring all of the emotions, textures and subtleties of inner-personal transformation.

He is hoping to one day start a movement towards experimental music, breaking the molds of common song structures, chord progressions and instrumentation.
